Israel is expected to demonstrate its Iron Beam once U.S. President starts his critical defense meetings in the Middle East.
The American leader is expected to visit the Middle East on Wednesday, July 13. His first discussion will be with Israel's Defense Minister Benny Gantz.
Biden's meeting with him will be conducted at the Ben-Gurion Airport.
Gantz recently announced that they would demonstrate some military innovations, including the so-called Iron Beam laser defense system.
Israel To Show Iron Beam Laser Weapon's Efficiency
According to Nikkei Asia's latest report, the new Iron Beam laser tech of Israel is the world's first energy-based military weapon.
"This is the world's first energy-based weapons system that uses a laser to shoot down incoming UAVs, rockets & mortars at a cost of $3.50 per shot," said ex-Israel Prime Minister Naftali Bennett via his official Twitter account.
He added that the Iron Beam might sound like tech from science fiction movies, but it is real. As of writing, this defense innovation is the latest model developed by the Middle East country for its multilayered missile defense umbrella.
However, it still can't take down fighter jets and other large defense threats. Although this is the case, the Iron Beam can destroy drones and other smaller flying objects.
When it comes to distance, it can take down its target at a range of up to 7 km in less than five seconds.
Why is Iron Beam a Big Deal?
The Wall Street Journal reported that the new Iron Beam laser defense tech might allow Israel to receive more financial support from the U.S.
But, this will still depend on whether the upcoming demonstration will satisfy Joe Biden. Experts stated that the new Iron Beam tech is Israel's latest innovation in its growing defense innovations.
This shows that many countries are now focusing on developing laser systems. Aside from Israel, Pentagon is also working on its own energy-based tech that can take down drones.
