Rogers Communications Inc., a Canadian communications company that offers wireless comms, internet, and television services, is suffering from a massive outage.
The latest issue with Rogers' system is now affecting thousands of users in Canada. One of the major problems they experience is unsuccessful 911 calls.
The Canadian communications company said the outage started on Friday, July 7. Because the issue affects police departments, banks, and other companies, Rogers is now making efforts to solve the outage.
However, the company hasn't confirmed the reason behind the system malfunction.
Rogers Down: Phone Outage Larger Than 2021 Issue?
According to Global News CA's latest report, the latest Rogers outage is affecting Interac machines and ATMs in Canada.
"We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected," said the Canadian comms company via its official Twitter announcement.
The company added that they would provide further updates as they fixed the outage. One of the most serious effects of this network issue is 911 call failure.
The Toronto Police Operations department confirmed that many people complain that they can't call 911 because of the network outage.
On the other hand, the Ottawa Police department said that they also see issues with 911 calls. Because of this, authorities urge the public not to disconnect their 911 call conversations if their call attempt successfully pushes through.
They also suggest using other cell phones that rely on different network providers so that they can call 911 properly.
Rogers 2022 Outage Bigger Than 2021 Issue?
U.S. News reported that the latest outage is bigger than the 2021 issue. Another thing that makes this outage suspicious is that it happened while the company was trying to acquire its rival, Shaw Communications.
As of writing, the $15 billion acquisition is delayed by antitrust authorities as they are concerned that it can affect the market competition.
