A 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 was sold at auction over the Fourth of July weekend for $325,000, which is $200,000 more than the initial MSRP!
VIP Auction
According to ScreenRant's report, Barrett-Jackson hosts VIP events where car collectors can gather to bid on each other's vehicles. The auctions occur all across the United States, including Houston, Palm Beach, and Las Vegas.
The 2022 Hummer EV Edition 1 was unveiled by GMC in October 2020 and was available commercially in December 2021. Three electric motors give the vehicle 1,000 horsepower in total. Additionally, it has a standard interstellar white interior, a transparent sky panel package, an extreme off-road package, and 800-Volt DC fast-charge functionality.
It also has a 329-mile range and employs General Motors' Ultium battery-pack technology.
The Hummer that was auctioned off has only ever had one user and has 48 kilometers on the odometer, so the buyer will be getting an almost brand new car, according to GM Authority.
Other Expensive Vehicles Auctioned
ScreenRant noted that there had been other expensive vehicles auctioned off besides the Hummer over the Fourth of July holiday. The same vehicle sold for $286,000 at a Mecum auction in March and for $260,000 in an internet sale in May.
According to ScreenRant, this EV is an environmentally sustainable truck with the speed of a sports car, which makes it extremely expensive. Tesla may have launched the EV truck craze, but the electric vehicle manufacturer hasn't yet unveiled its model.
It is worth noting that the first-production Hummer EV Edition 1 holds the record for the highest bid at a Barrett-Jackson auction last year. This luxurious vehicle is out of stock, and reservations were already available, contributing to its costly bid.
However, several GM dealerships had to increase their prices due to its low supply. Hence, one of the most viable ways for people to purchase this EV may be through an auction and paying a premium price.
When the first 10,000 automobiles were on sale, they were all gone in under 10 minutes. Customers will only be receiving their current orders to arrive until 2024.
In 1992, the first Hummer with an internal combustion engine (ICE) went on sale, although it barely got 10 miles per gallon. But in the 2000s, their popularity skyrocketed.
According to ScreenRant, the Hummer H2, a more affordable and compact variant of the original, was introduced to the market and has now become an instant classic.
