Sony's "Uncharted" film is now a franchise, and it will bring future sequels of the movie, with Tom Holland retaining his role as the daring adventurer and explorer, Nathan Drake. The film is a famous live-action adaptation of the massive hit game "Uncharted," which came from Naughty Dog and is renowned for its enormous experience with its story-heavy plot.
Sony's 'Uncharted' is Now a Film Franchise with Tom Holland Returning
According to The Ankler, Sony's "Uncharted" adaptation is now a "franchise" from the multimedia company, and it would deliver on future films that would continue the story of the famous adventurer from the games. It would also bring Tom Holland to reprise his role as Nathan Drake, the protagonist of the game series.
The Ankler reports that Sony's slate of films is also securing different movies in the coming years, including Holland's continued role as Peter Parker, a.k.a. Marvel's Spider-Man. Nevertheless, Comic Book Gaming said that the report mentioned Sony secured the Hollywood actor for "Uncharted" and is still trying to get him on board for more movies as the webhead.
'Uncharted' Movie Franchise: Still Faithful to its Source?
It is unknown if "Uncharted" would then pick up on the game's plot and stay faithful to its original source, as several film adaptations have the notion of tweaking its story for a more entertaining pretense. However, the mention of "Roman" in the second post-credit scene might be a hint at the villain known as "Gabriel Roman," that first appeared in the second "Uncharted" game from Naughty Dog.
'Uncharted' and its Massive Media Presence
"Uncharted" was a famous game franchise before it became a movie franchise, and that is thanks to Naughty Dog, which popularized the series with its unique storytelling and plot that gave it its massive fame. Sony's live-action take on "Uncharted" is somewhat different from the first game from its developers, as it looks into the earlier life of the protagonist.
Nevertheless, the public welcomed Tom Holland as Nathan Drake in this movie adaptation, and it became a massive hit among the world, being a light and funny film that brings in several game references. The movie also brings "Sully," or Drake's partner in the games, played by Mark Wahlberg.
It also brings Chloe Frazer, Nathan Drake's love interest in the games and in the movie, which Sophia Taylor Ali may also reprise in the sequel films.
Sony is building up a franchise on "Uncharted" while it is also securing Tom Holland for his role as the super-powered Avenger, Spider-Man, in his affiliation with Marvel. Nevertheless, the back story for the first movie already brought Nathan Drake's beginnings, and it may be time to see the sequel's story from the games to see a live-action adaptation.
