Uncharted fans, listen up: You won't be seeing Nathan Drake anytime soon. The PlayStation franchise made it clear in Uncharted 4 when it brought about a natural conclusion to the story of Nathan Drake; still, many fans remain hopeful that they will see a return of the protagonist.
Uncharted 4 writer and director Neil Druckmann took to social media to again, make it clear that Nathan Drake is still in "retirement."
An excerpt from Druckmann's tweet reads, "Happy 6th anniversary, Uncharted 4! Enjoy your retirement Nate & co.! We miss ya'll!"
This clearly suggests that Naughty Dog won't be bringing back the character in the new game.
The Rumor Mill: Nate's Coming Back
With many fans still hopeful that their favorite Uncharted character is coming back is all due to the rumors and reports over the past year. Rumors suggest that PlayStation is looking to revive Uncharted at some point. However, with Druckmann's most recent tweet, chances are, fans should not expect a comeback anytime soon.
One thing's for sure, though-Uncharted will be back on PlayStation consoles, especially since its film adaptation is a huge hit. Therefore, it's unlikely that the company will let this franchise sit around for a long time.
More Uncharted Releases in the Future
In April 2022, Christina-Marie Drake McBrearty took to LinkedIn that she had joined the team as a primary recruiter and has been scouting for talent for future teams for new titles but for Uncharted.
Also earlier this year, two Naughty Dog developers suggested that they're open to making more Uncharted games in the future. In January, creative director of Lost Legacy Shaun Escayg and game director Kurt Margenau were asked whether they will develop a new Uncharted game.
"I think we can say for certain that we can never say never," said Margenau. He added, "Yeah. Uncharted is a franchise we love-that the studio loves, I love, and Kurt loves. It's a world we want to see more of. So I can certainly say that."
Jeff Ross, the Days Gone director who also recently joined the Tomb Raider studio also said in February that he would want to make an Uncharted game that is focused on young Sully.
And that's not all-PlayStation's Visual Arts Service Group also wanted to remake the first Uncharted game; however, the project didn't push through because it was too expensive and would take a lot of time.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves
For now, Uncharted fans may look forward to the release of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves for PC, which is now looking more imminent. Epic has removed the June 20 release for the PC date and replaced it with "coming soon."
The Legacy of Thieves is a bundle of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which rounds off Nathan Drake's adventures and dives deeper into Chloe Frazier's escapade with Nadine ross in A Thief's End.
So, Uncharted fans, although Nathan Drake isn't resurfacing anytime soon, there's still quite a few things to look forward to in the future for the franchise.
