Authorities have banned Tesla EVs in a Chinese resort town for a couple of months. The local traffic police official confirmed this report.
Tesla Cars Prohibited From Entering Beidahe
According to a report by Electrek on Monday, June 20, the automaker is facing another series of bans following the Beidahe authorities' decision to ban Tesla cars from entering the area.
Before this happened, the Tesla EVs faced another ban from different Chinese cities. The car manufacturer was also prohibited from penetrating the Chengdu roads earlier this month.
As per Beidahe Traffic Police Brigade official, the reason why they arrived at that decision if because of "national affairs." The representative did not clarify further the particular "reason" behind the issue.
Tesla Cars Banned Over Spying Concerns
For those unfamiliar, the Chinese coastal town of Beidahe is where the senior leaders hold private meetings. The government does not mention the exact dates of the secret assembly, Reuters reported.
Moreover, the Tesla cars which were barred from driving on Chendu were spotted in early June. Many videos of the EVs were all over social media. At the time, the police were preventing them from entering certain locations in an area.
As for this part, it's possible that the Beidahe ban could take place because of the spying concerns. The authorities know that the Tesla cameras could pose security issues to the people.
Back in March 2020, Tech Times reported that China had imposed restrictions in Tesla EVs because of the same reason. The government thought that the cameras were used for espionage.
However, Tesla CEO Elon Musk explained that the Tesla electric vehicles did not do that thing in China and other parts of the world. Reuters wrote that the tech boss assured that if that happened, the company would close immediately.
As we know, Tesla equips its cars with security cams for protection and a safety guide for drivers while on the road. In addition, this helps capture the vehicle's surroundings for better control.
So far, Tesla's biggest markets lie in China. It's evident that the automaker trusts the country because even its production sites are built there.
Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory
Last year, the company's Shanghai factory produced over half of 936,000 vehicles globally. Unfortunately, the production gradually slowed down because of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. As a result, Tesla decided to temporarily shut down its operations in the area for more than 20 days.
In other news, another weird Alibaba electric vehicle was spotted on the e-commerce platform. For adventurous sea lovers, the site is currently selling a special BBQ party boat.
