Tesla Model Y with a 4680 battery gets its "Acceleration Boost" feature, enabling the electric vehicle compact crossover to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour instantaneously.
Tesla Model Y
Tesla introduced the latest iteration of its Model Y EV as it kicked off its new Gigafactory Texas last April.
It is worth noting that the giant EV maker owned by no less than Elon Musk also produces a Model Y at its Fremont factory.

But the new version of the Model Y straight from the Giga Texas sports a new 4680 battery, as per a news story by Drive Tesla Canada.
On top of that, the Giga Texas and Fremont-made Model Y have other distinctions beyond its battery.
Giga Texas vs. Fremont Model Y
The Model Y from the older Fremont facility of Tesla boasts a fast acceleration from 0 to 60 MPH for merely 4.8 seconds.
On the other hand, the owners of the Giga Texas Model Y, which comes with 4680 battery cells, perform the 0-60 MPH acceleration at a slightly lower rate at 5 seconds.
While the performance difference between the two versions of the Tesla crossover is only two milliseconds apart, the Fremont Model Y no doubt accelerates faster.
Tesla Model Y 4680 Acceleration Boost
But thanks to the all-new Acceleration Boost function on the Tesla Model Y from the Giga Texas, it now outperforms its Fremont sibling.
According to a recent report by Tesla North, the giant EV maker debuted an all-new in-app upgrade for the latest version of the Model Y.
The new Acceleration Boost feature remarkably refines the acceleration performance of the Giga Texas Model Y.
The all-new Boost makes the Model Y 4680 speedier than ever. It enables the all-electric crossover to achieve 0-60 MPH for only 4.2 seconds, making it faster than the Fremont version of the vehicle.
Tesla North notes that the EV maker has introduced its Acceleration Boost function to other vehicles in its lineup, such as the non-performance variants of the Model Y and Model 3.
This time, the Boost is now available on the Model Y with a 4680 structural battery. But it does not come for free.
