NHTSA says that Tesla Autopilot has the most crashes based on the agency's new ADS data. Unlike other advanced driver assistance systems, the EV maker's tech is more prone to accidents.
This is a big deal for Tesla drivers, especially since the giant automaker offers the Autopilot feature for free.
"The data released today are part of our commitment to transparency, accountability, and public safety," said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
NHTSA added that collecting important data will further help them analyze new vehicle techs that can prevent crashes, saving the lives of many drivers.
NHTSA Says Tesla Autopilot Has the Most Crashes!
According to Electrek's latest report, Tesla Autopilot tops the list of NHTSA when it comes to ADAS crashes. This feature experienced more than 270 accidents on the road.
On the other hand, Honda's ADAS system took second place, with a total of 90 crashes. But, NHTSA said that there's a reason why Tesla's Autopilot feature is more prone to accidents compared to other advanced driver assistance systems.
The agency explained that since it is offered for free, more EV drivers are using it on the actual roads. This means that drivers widely use Tesla Autopilot.
Meanwhile, other ADAS features are offered at a cost. On the other hand, FSD (Full Self-Driving) feature only experienced one crash based on NHTSA's ADAS Level 3 crash record.
