The original Kingdom Hearts saw the inclusion of some Final Fantasy (FF) characters, which marked the first time these characters appeared outside of the game. However, by Kingdom Hearts III, there were no more Final Fantasy characters to be seen. This has made many people speculate whether FF characters will appear in Kingdom Hearts 4.
Tetsuya Nomura revealed information about this. Initially, the FF characters were to support the Kingdom Hearts as a way to introduce players to the cast. Now, Nomura believes that this is no longer necessary, considering that they're not at the fourth installment of the game.
However, Nomura doesn't completely rule out the possibility of FF characters appearing in Kingdom Hearts IV.
He said that in Kingdom Hearts III, they found it difficult to find room for the FF characters to appear. But they are trying to find the right balance for that because they know that many fans want to see more FF characters. With that, the director said that they're thinking about it, but they can't give a firm decision about it just yet.
"One thing I want to clear up is that a lot of fans are saying that Kingdom Hearts is this collaboration between Disney characters and Final Fantasy characters. But I really feel like that's not the basic concept of Kingdom Hearts; that's not exactly what Kingdom Hearts is," Nomura stated.
The series also recently celebrated 20 years, and Nomura said that the series is always evolving, and the stories will go on. He also said that as far as main characters go, Sora is only the real candidate for the main character, and he is very important to the series.
Many Final Fantasy fans are still hopeful to see the characters in Kingdom Hearts games.
