Amazon Launches Invite-Based Ordering Option to Repel Scalpers From Hoarding PS5, Xbox

Amazon has launched its special invite system for high-demand products that are currently low in supply. The particular ordering option will also bar scalpers and bots from taking advantage of the console restocks.

With that being said, hoarding will now be limited to the store. Thus, only legitimate buyers will be allowed to purchase these elusive gaming gadgets.

In an interview with Techcrunch, Amazon says that the new invite system will prevent bots from interrupting the inventory conditions of the high-demand items. It would also prevent "price gouging," which is frequently done by scalpers.

The e-commerce adds that this ordering option will target those genuine customers who want to purchase their products. As of writing, this feature is only available for PlayStation 5 consoles in the United States.

It is expected that the company will introduce this invite-based ordering option to Xbox Series X in the next few days. Sooner, Amazon will bring this new program to other countries outside the US.

Amazon has made this option available and accessible to anyone to the point that a person won't require Prime membership just to activate it. You can request its invitation on the official PS5 page of the retailer.

Once you access this site, you will see a "request invitation" button. All you have to do is to tap the link containing "new and used" so it will appear in the options.

Amazon Account Assessment

Not all accounts are eligible to access the new invite system. According to Engadget, the accounts will undergo a thorough evaluation of the company. This brief assessment will help them identify if your account is authentic or not.

Amazon will inspect your information, including your purchase history and the date when you created your account. If the company detects that your details are fine, you will receive an invite request later through an email. From there, you will be instructed to do the steps in purchasing a certain product from the store.

You should take note that there's an expiration for the invitation. The product page contains the countdown timer for it.

As the company receives more supplies, it will send more invitations regarding high-demand items or products.

Before Amazon rolled out the invite-ordering option, Sony has been doing this already over the past year regarding PS5 restocks.

It's noteworthy that the invitation will not give you a sure purchase of a PlayStation 5 console from the shop. However, it could increase your chances of getting one.

During restocks, you don't need anymore to join the virtual queue just to be ahead of other customers.

Limiting Marketplace Prices

Outside this option, Amazon also has another solution to drive away opportunist resellers on the selling site. The company also limits the product prices for the sellers in the Marketplace. In this way, the scalper won't be able to resell an Xbox Series X for double its usual price to a potential buyer.
