Despite already launching more than a year ago, gamers and fans of the console alike are still struggling to get their copy of the famed PlayStation 5. Due to the lack of frequent PS5 restock drops, buyers are struggling with the competition against both scalpers and other buyers.
Amazon Introduces Its 'Reservation System'
According to the story by CNet, the new PS5 restock is expected to drop on different major retailers but as for when, the article says that it could happen "this week." Due to issues regarding the supply chain, it has been a while since any restocks have dropped, and now, the article is saying buyers can expect one to happen soon.
The article notes that after a dry spell of not receiving any restocks, both Walmart and Amazon are likely to drop one very soon. Amazon, however, has introduced its new "reservation system" for certain products that are hard to track down.
New System Could Increase Chances to Buy the PS5 Restock
The PS5 restock will be included in the new reservation system which could be a good thing since it might help buyers secure a spot at buying the console. As per CNet, however, it won't be enough for buyers to have a subscription and be there when the console drops.
With the new measures in place, buyers will still need to wait in a special queue in order to make the purchase. This is both a good and bad thing for buyers since although they might have to wait a little longer, at least their spots are secured when it comes to purchasing the console.
Amazon Wants to Help Buyers Gain Access to In-Demand Products
The new measures were introduced in order to reduce the bot buying phenomenon which has resulted in scalpers getting a hold of the majority of the supply and reselling them at a higher price.
According to Engadget, the new measures made by Amazon can help stop the spread of PS5 and Xbox scalpers in order to give regular buyers a fair shot at purchasing the console. As per the publication, the main goal is in order to "help legitimate shoppers get their hands on in-demand products.
Warning: Don't Buy PS5 from Twitter
CNet also warns the public regarding a potential scam on Twitter. The article says that buyers wanting to buy the PS5 right away should avoid purchasing the console from other people on Twitter saying "it's almost certainly a scam."
For those that don't want to wait for the upcoming drops, however, CNet recommends that they check out StockX. Although buyers will be able to purchase the console through the website, they might have to do so at higher prices.
