NASA Ingenuity Helicopter: Will It Survive Mars' Winter Season? Dangers Coming

Mars is already on its Winter season cycle, and the Red Planet is famous for the season because of its extremely cold environment that would not have any shelter or modern technology to put on a heater. Despite being devices and remote-controlled technology, the Ingenuity Space Helicopter and the Perseverance Rover may be in big trouble for this weather.

According to NASA's Ingenuity Team Lead from Jet Propulsions Laboratory, Theodore Tzanetos (via SciTechDaily), there is a dangerous incoming time for the space helicopter under the Perseverance mission. Tzanetos noted that Mars would have a winter season that would be unforgiving and have no shelters to take solace in, as it is a barren land.

It will get extremely cold, and the spacecraft will not have much choice in its heating facility, which will also protect it from external sources while it is charging. It is because there are no structures or facilities on Mars that would take care of them, apart from the apparatus it brought with it.

It is important to note that the Winter season on Mars will also have a hard time gathering sunlight for its solar power ventures.

NASA Mars Mission: Ingenuity May Lose Power Soon

NASA's Ingenuity may lose its power soon, and it is because it cannot correctly charge during this weather on Mars, where it does not get the sufficient sunlight it needs for everyone to access. Once, a reset happened on the Ingenuity helicopter, and it was because of the lack of power and weather situation in the Red Planet.

NASA Perseverance Mission on Mars

NASA's latest mission to Mars is the Perseverance 2020 venture that brought two spacecraft to the Red Planet's surface, and it aims to explore more of the Jezero crater and learn more about the planet's past. Of course, the materials and things found on Mars will also be of great use in explaining the origins of the universe to the public.

It is common knowledge that the Perseverance mission brings the Ingenuity space helicopter and the Perseverance rover (known as Percy) to Mars. Its tandem would help discover more from the ground and air.

Using its wings and small stature, the Ingenuity helicopter can roam around freely and easily, taking pictures of different locations and using its advantage to fly and see more.

There is a significant threat to its existence, both the Perseverance and the Ingenuity space helicopter, as Winter is upon Mars, and there are no ways to combat or protect against it apart from existing tech. Now, people will need to hope and see what is in store for the future, primarily if it survives the season.
