Google Assistant to Ditch Ability to Set Location-Based Reminders, But Will Receive 3 Menu Upgrades

Google Assistant has one of the most important features that people use when they want to set a reminder with a location. Specifically, it can help individuals set a particular place so they can be reminded once they go to a town, city, or state.

Once they get there, the people will be immediately notified by Google's AI assistant. It's very useful to the point that it helps them to get things done easily, like going to the grocery store or filling up a gas tank for their cars as soon as they touch down at a refilling station.

However, this feature will soon be removed from the platform, the search engine giant officially confirms.

When Google launched the feature back in 2018, many users have quickly taken advantage of this on their Home devices. The early test for this option has been successful as people were able to set location-based reminders with no known problem.

According to an article by 9to5Google on Wednesday, June 1, the said option to set reminders with a particular place is now on the verge of being deleted soon.

As of writing, the tech titan did not disclose the exact reason why it arrived at this decision. Additionally, it notified the users that they would instead set reminders at a specific period.

Regardless, they could still set routines for a certain place. This will be prompted in the Google Assistant to trigger some tasks depending on their current location.

Per Engadget, Google has not yet revealed the exact date for the removal of this feature. On the brighter side, this could pave the way for another upgrade to the digital assistant.

As such, the Google Assistant could transform into a more convenient organizer which will allow users to save all of their content in a single place. The smart search function could be the center of this improvement.

Previously, Google Assistant retired some features, including Snapshot and "Hey Google" hotword, Tech Times reported.

Google Assistant to Receive Improved Settings Menu

As expected, Google's virtual assistant software app is now on its way to welcoming new functionality for its settings menu. This will also let the users sort out their files easily and locate their locations.

According to Android Police, three categories will soon debut on the Google menu, including the following:

  • Get things done
  • Manage apps and services
  • Customize your Assistant

Although it's just a minor improvement, the ability to organize the subcategories is still a big help for people who are lost in handling their files, photos, and other stuff.

You can also customize each of the categories to make it more manageable depending on your preference. For instance, "Hey Google & Voice Match" will now transform into "Access your Assistant," while "You," which is found below "Assistant voice & sounds," will change into "Your information."
