Google Assistant has finally landed on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series. As many smartwatches upgrade their operating system, the South Korean tech titan appears to be still using the Wear OS 3 for its wearables.
If you want to install this digital assistant right away from your device, here's a short guide to help you out.
Installing Google Assistant on Galaxy Watch 4
The Galaxy Watch 4 series just came out last year during Samsung's Unpacked event. This next-gen smartwatch lineup boasts the latest Google Wear OS, which paves the way for new features.
Of course, installing Google's AI assistant is one of the most exciting tasks that you can do with this wearable.
Your handheld should be near the smartwatch before you jump to the actual installation process. You should also make sure that it's connected to it, per XDA Developers.
- First, open the app drawer by swiping up on your Galaxy Watch 4.
- Upon accessing the Google Play Store, go to the "My Apps" section. You can now see a pending update about Google Assistant.
- In case you haven't seen any update on it, you can simply use the search bar on the PlayStore.
- Then, click "Update" to begin the installation process of the app.
- After downloading Google Assistant, open it.
- Tap "Get Started" and set up the app on your smartphone.
- Once you're finished, just follow the instructions that will be given to you to enable the Google Assistant on Galaxy Watch 4.
Can You Sideload Google Assistant on Galaxy Watch 4?
Sideloading is commonly done on Android devices if you want to install an app in APK format. The same process is also applicable to Google Assistant, but it's limited only to select countries such as the US, the UK, Korea, Taiwan, Ireland, Japan, France, Canada, Germany, and Australia.
However, the digital assistant is not yet available to other markets, so here's how to get it via APK.
- Go to the APKMirror website and install Assistant (Wear OS) 1.0.0.445971688.release.
- Then, go to the PlayStore and download Easy Fire Tools.
- Continuously click "Software Version" until the "Developer mode turned on" message appears.
- Go back to the main settings and look for "Developer options." It's above the "Software Update."
- Access the Developer Options and switch on "ADB" debugging.
- Write the IP address placed under "Debug over Wi-Fi." Ditch the four "5" digits at the end.
- From your phone, open Easy Fire Tools and tap the hamburger menu.
- From there, access the Settings, then the IP Address.
- Delete the existing IP address and replace it with a new one. Click Ok to save the changes.
- Click the Plug icon to start the ADB connection with the Galaxy Watch 4. Just a friendly reminder -- always connect your watch and your phone to the Wi-Fi.
In other news, Android Authority shares some steps to fix the battery drain issue on your Galaxy Watch 4. Some of the problems are reportedly related to the use of Google Assistant.
