According to The Automotive World's report, the two companies aim to bring an improved "human-interface interface'' or HMI to the future Volvo electric cars.

Per Volvo, the video game publisher will aid them in creating a platform that will help the automaker's engineers to develop software for HMI development. This will also help them establish the driver's safety.

"This technology gives us the capability to create responsive, really high-quality visuals that we can play with and layer in information, create realistic representations when needed, all of those kinds of things," Volvo Cars head of user experience Thomas Stovicek said.

What Will Unreal Engine Do to the Cars

In another story from The Verge, the Volvo official said that the partnership would aim to stick with safety as a core aspect.

The Gothenburg-based firm will be using Unreal Engine to provide the external parts of the EV. These include the radar, lidar, camera, and external sensors.

Additionally, Volvo looks forward to incorporating this gaming technology to the improvement of battery life and other details regarding motion graphics, color, and more.

As we know, Unreal Engine is one of the leading tools that shape 3D gaming at its finest. It was first used back in 1998 for "Unreal," an fps game.

Since then, Epic decided to utilize it for other video game titles across. Even the other industries are already using this tool in movie making.

Outside gaming, Epic has become more attached to the automotive sector. According to Heiko Wenczel, the head of Detroit Lab at the company, many carmakers have been attracted to the "additional" platform in their products.

As of press time, there's no hint about the first Volvo car that will acquire the Unreal Engine software. Both Epic and Volvo remain tight-lipped about this news.

Unreal Engine 5 Debut

Per Tech Times, Epic announced back in April that the Unreal Engine 5 will be coming with various features and toolsets for the developers.

Some of them include Nanite's polygonal designs and Lumen's lighting effects. To note, this technology was recently seen in the latest PS5 demo for "The Matrix Awakens."

Unreal Engine is indeed a game-changer in the industry. Aside from bringing the real-world effects in some of the most popular titles, it allows the game designers and creators to test out its features and look for the missing link for a potential enhancement.
