Elon Musk Polls Twitter Followers in Still-Ongoing Feud with AOC: ‘Politicians or Billionaires’

As Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trade blow in the courtroom, Tesla executive Elon Musk and US representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) engage in online combat on Twitter. Following AOC's most recent remarks, in which she contemplated aloud the potential of selling her Tesla, Musk took to Twitter to poll his followers with the question, "Who do you trust less? Real Question."

Musk's poll included only two options for followers to choose from, those being Politicians and Billionaires, a direct jab at the US representative from NY. He likewise added in a now-deleted reply to the aforementioned poll, "Even an army of leftist bots couldn't change the outcome of this poll." At the time of writing, it sits at a whopping three million votes and rising, with the large majority seemingly leaning Politicians (75.7%).

Musk likewise went on to goad AOC in a post directed at her, inciting the politician to do the same on her own timeline. Musk's Tweet read specifically, "@aoc I dare you to run the same poll with your followers." In reply to one commenter, who asked if the executive was "picking on" the congresswoman due to her Tesla remarks, Musk simply replied with a laughing and wide-eyed emoji.

The feud initially began back in late April, when AOC took to the social media site to air grievances surrounding Mark Zuckerberg's handling over Facebook in regards to an "explosion of hate crimes" fueled by the billionaire's supposed skewing of the "massive communication platform." AOC wrote in full:

"Tired of having to collectively stress about what explosion of hate crimes is happening bc some billionaire with an ego problem unilatilatterly controls a massive communication platform and skews it because Tucker Carlson or Peter Thiel took him to dinner and made him feel special."

Musk replied to her with a rather tongue-in-cheek "Stop hitting on me, I'm really shy," adding a blushing emoji for extra emphasis. She shot back at him, saying "I was talking about Zuckerberg but ok," though she quickly deleted the post. When asked why, she explained to one user that she tries "to avoid giving people with massive ego complexes like this the attention and [Quote Tweets]/replies they crave and are seeking (when I can help it)."

As a Democrat and active representative of the Green New Deal, which she co-authored, limiting all potential carbon emissions is of extreme importance to the politician. Thus, driving a Tesla (or any form of electric vehicle) is imperative to the progressive ideology AOC leads, yet the constant back and forth online with the billionaire has seemingly led her to feel less inclined toward her Tesla Model 3.

In a Bloomberg article published on May 24th, AOC explains she would rather purchase from a union-led EV distributor, which in the US only consist of the Ford F-150 Lightning pickup and Chevrolet's Bolt, making her domestic options rather limited. AOC has yet to publicly respond to the tech mogul as of writing, but it's doubtful she will.

As for Musk, the SpaceX and Tesla executive has been quite vocal over the past several months on the importance of free speech in the context of the online space. In his still ongoing purchase of Twitter, Musk cited the return of Donald Trump to the platform as a possibility under his new regime. He likewise has consistently highlighted the necessity of the platform's maintaining a neutral landscape in regards to any political affiliation, despite declaring to vote Republican in the future due to Democrats' party of "division and hate."
