Following earlier this year's rumors, Xiaomi finally confirms its collaboration with Leica Camera and becomes its fourth partner, joining Sharp, Huawei, and Panasonic.
According to Yahoo, Xiaomi and Leica's collaboration isn't the first time a phone maker has integrated photography materials from a prominent camera manufacturer.
Looking back, Vivo has done the same in 2020 when they teamed forces with Zeiss with their X80 series. This is after following in the footsteps of Sony and Nokia. Recently, Oppo and OnePlus began producing smartphones co-developed with Hasselblad, such as the Find X5 series and the OnePlus 10 Pro respectively.
Will Xiaomi release a new phone?
The phone co-developed by Xiaomi and Leica will be available in July 2022. However, Xiaomi has not revealed much else about this impending device. Many speculate that it will use Qualcomm's brand new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, as well as Leica's standard classic photography flair and filters.
Additionally, the name Xiaomi might be using will either be branded the "Xiaomi 12 Ultra" or the "Xiaomi 13" series. Nonetheless, smartphone gurus can only anticipate the information that will be released in July.
What everyone can guarantee is that the imaging Leica will provide to the new Xiaomi phone. In their press release, CEO Lei Jun recognized the capabilities boasted by Leica saying, "This cooperation will provide a strong boost to Xiaomi's imaging strategy."
In the same statement reported by GSM Arena, both CEOs acknowledged that Xiaomi and Leica have similar ideals about phone imaging and are excited to elevate mobile photography to the next level.
"Xiaomi focuses on producing the ideal user experience, and has always aimed to explore the potential of smartphone photography to the maximum," Lei Jun stated. Xiaomi and Leica's collaboration will develop an optical design as well as refine aesthetic orientations. All made possible after being in an agreement with each other's unique pursuits.
Moreover, Leica Camera AG's CEO Matthias Harsch described the long-term strategic partnerships with Xiaomi as an honor and an exciting venue for increased phone camera capabilities.
Harsch also emphasized the exceptionally thorough cooperation process that strengthened the alliance. Both Leica and Xiaomi are certain that the first collaboratively designed imaging flagship smartphone demonstrates both firms' pioneering accomplishments.
The CEO of Leica Camera AG promises "excellent image quality, traditional Leica elegance, and unrestrained creativity."
The product of the partnership
As is customary with such declarations of collaboration, only time will reveal where this flagship smartphone ranks on the depth scale.
Will the new Xiaomi phone keep its standard production materials and likeness, splattered with the Leica photography company's trademark and a few filters in the camera app? Or was it genuinely co-developed hardware and software that was employed in the process?
Nonetheless, many are looking forward to this partnership and the Xiaomi phone releasing this July will either be a surprise or a predicted model.
