The new Tesla structural battery pack is expected to be removable. Although this tech is quite astonishing, some experts claim that the innovation can be quite difficult to maintain and replace.
Twitter user Brian Krause spotted the new EV technology after accessing the automaker's online service manuals, which are now free.
"Found something cool in here already. Apparently, the 'structural' battery packs are actually removable and replaceable!" said Krause via his official Twitter post.
He added that when the structural battery pack is replaced with a new one, it leaves a "nice hole" in the bottom of the Tesla car.
New Tesla Structural Battery Pack May Have Issues?
According to Electrek's latest report, the new structural battery pack was already hinted at after Tesla introduced its advanced 4680 power cell during the Battery Day event back in 2020.
Based on the leaked details, the new structural battery pack works by replacing the bottom part of the Tesla EV, allowing it to be a part of the whole car.
This is quite similar to the recent aircraft innovation, which focuses on airplane wings that can contain fuel. Because of this, the new tech can remove the need for fuel tanks, making any aircraft lighter.
On the other hand, since the new battery tech of Tesla will replace the bottom part of its EVs, it is expected to connect each electric vehicle's front and rear underbody.
Experts Say Tesla's New Battery Tech Has Issues
The new Tesla structural battery pack is expected to reduce the overall mass of EV units by around 10%.
Aside from this, it can also offer other benefits, such as a 14% additional range since the electric cars will be lighter once they use the new electric cell.
But, experts claim that this innovation of Tesla can lead to some issues. One of these is the complicated process when replacing the structural battery pack.
They said that Tesla's new tech requires a total of 143 steps just to remove it from the EV. After that, mechanics need to make another 171 steps to put the new battery pack.
If this is true, then replacing a structural battery pack with Tesla will take a lot of time and effort. You can visit this link to see further details.
Meanwhile, Tesla's service manual information package is now free.
On the other hand, the Tesla Supercharger pilot program is now expanding in Europe.
