Amazon Fire 7 upgrades to USB-C support and a better battery life performance, but it got a slight price increase.
The Fire 7 is known to be the smallest tablet on Amazon, at the same time, it is also the cheapest among the offerings of the giant retailer, as per a news story by The Verge.
After neglecting the Fire 7 tablet for three years, Amazon is stuffing it with much-needed upgrades that most mobile devices, or specifically tablets, readily offer these days.
Amazon Fire 7 Upgrades
Amazon announced that the refreshed version of Fire 7 brings a better experience to its users. It now has faster overall performance, which the giant retailer says improves by 30 percent.
It is all thanks to the spec upgrades that the Fire 7 tablet earns in its latest version. To be more precise, the refreshed device runs on a quad-core processor.
Its RAM also expands from 1GB to 2GB. The Verge points out that the memory increase should allow its users to do a little more multitasking, such as opening multiple tabs to load a few websites.
On top of the more seamless web browsing, Fire 7 owners should also experience lesser lag when jumping from one app to another, making the overall experience much smoother.
Essentially, the Fire 7 is still far from the performance of the latest flagship tablets out there. But it now offers a faster experience than its previous iteration, thanks to the specs upgrade.
Amazon Fire 7's USB-C, Battery Life
Battery life has dramatically emerged as one of the biggest deal breakers for tech consumers.
Most tablets and smartphones have increasingly adopted blazing fast charging support to keep up with the growing dependability of their users to these devices. Thus, the need for longer battery life.
That said, Amazon also gives the Fire 7 an upgraded battery, extending its life to give its users more time with the all-new tablet.
The tech giant claims that its cheapest tablet now lasts roughly 40 percent longer before needing to be plugged in, according to a recent report by ZDNet. The Fire 7 vows to play videos for at least 10 hours until it needs to juice up again.
There's no fast charging support for it yet. Instead, it only comes with a 5-watt power adapter. But it got the upgraded USB-C charging port, ditching the micro-USB counterpart that it previously sported.
Amazon Fire 7 Price
With the specs upgrades, is the Amazon Fire 7 still the cheapest tablet that the retailer offers?
ZDNet highlighted in its story that the latest Fire 7 comes with about a $10 price increase, jacking up its cost from $49.99 to $59.99.
