Monkeypox contact tracing is now conducted by Scotland's health officials.
The Public Health Scotland (PHS) announced their decision after a case of the rare infection was spotted in England on Saturday, May 14.
Although the monkeypox disease is quite rare, medical researchers said that this infection can lead to serious illnesses.
Now, a new case was seen in England, and the patient had a recent travel history from Nigeria.
Monkeypox Contact Tracing Now Conducted by PHS
According to News TV's latest report, PHS decided to work with the U.K. The Health Security Agency (UKHSA) conducts the contact tracing for the latest monkeypox case.
"Public Health Scotland is liaising with the UK Health Security Agency over the contact tracing of a small number of individuals related to the monkeypox case identified in England," said a PHS spokesperson.
The UKHSA announced that it collaborates with the National Health Service (NHS) to identify individuals who made close contact with the infected individual.
One of their efforts made so far is reaching individuals who traveled with the infected person when he went to the United Kingdom.
UKHSA Director of Clinical and Emerging Infections Dr. Colin Brown explained that they and the National Health Service have well-established infection control procedures.
Thanks to their efficient health methods, Dr. Brown said that they can deal with infectious diseases more efficiently.
Monkeypox Symptoms
Although the monkeypox disease doesn't easily spread, it is still important to be precautious as health experts identify more infections.
CDC provided the symptoms that people should look out for to ensure that the deadly disease does not infect them. Here are some of them:
- Muscle pain
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Chills Exhaustion
- Backache
