Sometimes, muting and blocking a person on Twitter is not enough to secure your safety on social media. Ideally, the tech company should be using third-party apps to prevent harassment that happens among its users. That's what Twitter is doing right now.
Twitter to Directly Promote Developers' Apps
According to a report by Techcrunch on Friday, Apr. 22, Twitter will be recommending third-party apps to pave the way for a safe and secure social platform for the users.
This time, the company is now seeking some help from the developers in hopes of implementing effective measures to eliminate online harassment. Indeed, the case remains rampant not just on Twitter but on other social media sites, as well.
For this part, the firm will recommend some third-party apps that will appear when one user blocks a stranger or another individual.
Third-Party Apps on Twitter
As of the moment, one of the apps that users can utilize is Block Party. For people who are having a hard time in cyberspace, you can block unwanted persons in your feed right away using this application. This is a great tool to bar some people from harassing social media users.
"The default algorithm is that anytime somebody tags you, you see a mention. The new algorithm, with something like Block Party installed - even if users aren't thinking of it as like I'm choosing my own algorithm - is a different experience," Block Party CEO Tracy Chou says.
Additionally, Chou mentions that the team is very "enthused" about this opportunity that Twitter has given to them. She also acknowledges the initiative of the company to put them directly in front to address the people's needs when it comes to recommendations.
Another notable app that is ideal to use to prevent harassment is Bodyguard. The name suggests that you can be safeguarded by a "bodyguard" (app) which in this case can automatically moderate the replies coming from a suspicious guest.
If you want to limit your mentions in a tweet, you can also rely on Moderate. This will give you more room for a safer space especially if you are dealing with people who mess up your feed.
Along with Twitter's own block and muting mechanisms, these tools are usable and thus easy to set up. Recommending these apps to the users is one step away from addressing the rampant harassment on the platform.

Twitter Wants to Establish More Connections
In another report by Engadget, the latest decision of Twitter to promote the developers could be a clear sign that it's now straying away from a bad relationship with third-party sources.
Indeed, the social media giant has made it clear that it's now heading towards improving the app as a whole.
Meanwhile, you can stop people from searching you on Twitter by following a series of steps that Tech Times shared last February. In this way, you can limit your account visibility so only your close friends will be able to see your posts every now and then.
