Millions of iPhone units could be lost if the citywide lockdown in Shanghai, China, continues. Government officials decided to implement stricter health protocols the COVID-19 infection cases continue to worsen.
Because of this, several companies decided to halt their production operations. These include Nio, a Chinese EV maker, as well as Tesla.
Tech Times recently reported that Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai experienced long suspensions because of the Shanghai restrictions.
This was followed by Nio EV production suspension. Meanwhile, an iPhone assembler also halted its operations. Because of this, millions of Apple smartphones produced in China can be lost.
Millions of iPhone Units Could Be Lost?
According to 9To5Mac's latest report, Pegatron, an iPhone assembler working with Apple, decided to suspend its operations in China.

Because of this, Apple analysts claimed that Pegatron can lose around six to 10 million iPhone units if the ongoing Shanghai lockdown continues for two more months.
As of writing, Pegatron hasn't announced when will it resume its iPhone production. Aside from this tech manufacturer, other Apple product assemblers, such as Compal and Quanta, also suspend their operations.
This means that iPad and Mac units can also be lost. There's a high chance that this can happen, especially since the COVID-19 infections in China are not getting any better.
China Lockdown's Status
Quarts reported that the ongoing Shanghai lockdown worsens as more COVID-19 daily cases are recorded. Because of this, the supply chain crisis is also getting worst.
Some experts even said that the supply chain issue is comparable to the one experienced by China back in 2020.
On the other hand, logistic operators said that once the restrictions are lifted, Shanghai might also experience another chaos as manufacturers try to regain the revenues they lost.
