The users of the social media giant have long been requesting the edit feature, which should allow them to edit their tweets without needing to sacrifice the likes and retweets that it has already received.

While other social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, have long been sporting an edit option, Twitter stubbornly refused to give it to its users.

However, things are about to change this time around as the official account of Twitter now confirms that the folks behind the microblogging platform have been working on an edit feature.

The tech giant now officially confirms that the long-awaited edit button is coming to Twitter after years of consistent clamor from its users.

As such, in a few months, Twitter users could already fix typos and other erroneous tweets by simply tapping the edit button, as per a news story by The Verge. Not to mention that there would no longer be a need to delete a tweet to correct any errors.

The announcement from Twitter itself further disclosed that its devs have been working on it since last year or in 2021.

Twitter Edit Button and Elon Musk

It goes to show that Twitter did not get the idea of working on an edit button from a recent poll by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is also the largest shareholder of the microblogging platform.

The confirmation from Twitter comes shortly after the Tesla boss, Musk, tweeted a poll asking its users if they "want an edit button."

As of writing, the poll of the tech billionaire has already garnered a total of 4.3 million votes since it was posted.

As it turns out, the majority, or 73.5 percent of the participants, wanted the long-awaited edit button. On the other hand, only 26.5 percent said that they do not want an edit button.

Twitter Edit Button: How to Get

According to a recent report by The Next Web, Twitter is rolling out an edit button, but its users will have to pay the monthly subscription of Twitter Blue.

That said, you will have to spend some money to be able to edit your tweets.

Twitter stated that it is "kicking off testing within Twitter Blue Labs in the coming months."
