On Mar. 22, Twitter announced that iOS users can now make their own GIF using their camera while on their Twitter app. When a user composes a new tweet on iOS, just click the camera button.

After that, you can select between a photo, a video, and an animated GIF. The GIF recording must not be longer, as it should only last for a few seconds, but it will come in handy once in a while, especially when you find a recording that you like.

Twitter Introduces GIF Option

After you record your GIF, you are given the option to play it front to back on the loop, or you can make it play like a boomerang similar to Instagram, which plays forward then reverse on loop, according to 9to5Mac.

Once you make the GIF, it saves automatically to your camera roll as a GIF in your images folder and not a video because it is a GIF.

Twitter has released so many new features these couple of weeks that it is difficult to keep track. Some recent updates that users may have missed include posting clips from Spaces, a potential upcoming spin on Instagram's close friend's list, and some timeline algorithm adjustments.

Twitter has not said when the GIF feature might be available for Android, but the platform usually adds in new updates to Android users eventually, according to The Verge.

Clipping Tool for Twitter Spaces

On Mar. 19, Twitter began testing a new clipping tool for Spaces. Select hosts on iOS can now clip 30 seconds of audio from recorded Spaces so they can be shared with other Twitter users.

All iOS users can also now see and listen to the clips on their Twitter timeline, while Android users and web users will access the feature soon.

The social media company also plans to roll out the clipping functionality to all users in the future, and not just to the hosts.

A spokesperson from Twitter told TechCrunch that there is no limit to the number of audio clips that can be created, and they will stay on the p0latform for 30 days.

The spokesperson added that currently, everyone on iOS could see and listen to Spaces clips on their own timeline, and soon users on Android and the web will get access as well.

They will be monitoring feedback and plan to expand Spaces clipping functionality to everyone on the platform in the near future.

The hosts will be able to create audio clips from recorded spaces that can be shared through a tweet that will also link back to the entire recording. The new feature is a way for hosts to boost interest in their Spaces while also highlighting specific parts of a broadcast without having to share the entire video.

Clubhouse, the social media audio app that is considered the rival of Twitter Spaces, rolled out its clipping feature in September 2021. It allows live listeners in public rooms to cut the most recent 30 seconds of audio and share it online.

In 2021, Twitter added video subtitles that play if the video is muted.
