GM spokesman Kevin Kelly confirmed that the production for the Chevy Bolt EV and EUV has already resumed after undergoing hiatus for some months.
The halted production stemmed from the issue that happened in the LG battery cells.
GM Resumes Chevrolet Bolt Production
According to a report by Detroit News on Monday, April 4, General Motors has restarted its operation earlier this week. For the Chevy Bolt EV/EUV, the company spokesperson said in a statement.
Back in August 2021, the automaker announced that some problems affect all Bolt EVs and EUVs. The company clarified that LG was to blame for the battery defect that might spark fires.
As a result, GM needed to pause the production of the specific car units temporarily. The firm recorded about $2 billion in losses because of the incident.
The following month of the same year, the car manufacturer highlighted that it had already fixed the issue. This hinted that at any time, production could now be resumed.
On top of that, GM also replaced the batteries that were once recalled in Chevy Bolts.
It is to note that many pauses delayed the production many times. The cycle continued back and forth for GM.
Earlier this January, Tech Times reported rumored news about the potential suspension of production of Chevy Bolt EVs and EUVs in the GM Michigan factory.
In February, GM said that production would resume in two months. The announcement came true since the company indeed restarted the operation this month.
