YouTube has added thousands of free movies and TV shows to its platform in the United States, allowing its users to stream them without spending a dollar.
YouTube Free Movies, Shows
However, as per a news story by The Verge, the free offering of the video streaming platform, YouTube, comes with a catch it plays ads while its viewers are watching a movie or a TV show.
The new offering of YouTube is an ad-supported streaming service, which houses more than 4000 movies and TV shows combined.
YouTube is offering its free movies and shows on various platforms, including desktops, smartphones, tablets, and "most connected TVs via the YouTube TV app."
It is worth noting that the new free ad-supported offering of YouTube is not entirely new in the world of streaming.
In fact, other services like Tubi and Roku, as well as the TV features of Samsung and Vizio, also allow their users to experience the same offering.
Meanwhile, the giant video sharing service is now also offering its own version of an ad-supported platform.
That said, aside from the video content posted by the users of YouTube, viewers could now also watch blockbuster movies and TV shows.
YouTube Free Movies, Shows: How to Watch
However, according to a recent report by Mashable, the new ad-supported free movies and shows on YouTube are annoyingly hard to find.
Thus, it is hard to spot the massive catalog of YouTube movies and shows, which includes titles like "Legally Blonde," "Andromeda," and "Hell's Kitchen," to name a few.
Unlike other streaming services, Mashable reported that browsing these free titles on YouTube is not as straightforward as scrolling through a couple of movies and shows.
Not to mention that YouTube also does not provide any filters to narrow down the search results into categories like action films or TV sitcoms.
Instead, YouTube is only showing its free movies and shows on its "free to watch movies" section based on the viewing activity of its users.
As such, some of the titles from its ad-supported library are hidden by the algorithm of YouTube. It only shows movies and series that it thinks the viewer would want to watch.
A spokesperson of YouTube told Mashable in its report that its service is personalized to its users. Thus, the platform said that "instead of seeing the entire library at once in the links, users see personalized selections for them."
