Spotify is finally adding its COVID-19 labels on the music streaming platform for content that tackles several disputes or issues regarding the virus, mainly if it borders on experts' opinions. The labels come months later than the previous issue when Joe Rogan and Neil Young initially became central figures, with the streaming platform getting caught in the middle.
Spotify Adds COVID-19 Labels, Warnings in App
Spotify added something new to its platform, and it is an unexpected move from the company despite previously promising to improve its services regarding misinformation. The COVID-19 labels for the podcasts and other content on the platform will now get a banner or alert that what people are accessing is content relating to the global pandemic.
The company faced many disputes and grievances from the public and health experts regarding this issue with "The Joe Rogan Experience," a podcast famous in the app. Doctors and other experts went as far as publishing an open letter to Spotify (via The Rolling Stones) to address this issue against the streaming giant.
Spotify's Joe Rogan and Neil Young Issue
Early 2022 saw the issues of Joe Rogan and Neil Young that hashed it out on the online platforms, calling out the podcast content creator for his influence on the streaming platform. Several musicians opted out of Spotify to show their disdain for the company's actions regarding the issue, particularly by allowing Joe Rogan to continue his streams.
Spotify's Podcasts
Spotify's podcasts have a variety of offers from the public from the many talks about life, lifestyle, entertainment, facts, research, academics, and even deconstructing misinformation in the mainstream media. One of the upcoming podcasts from the company is from Meghan Markle and her experiences in life from being an outsider included in the Royal Family.
Podcast firms are also available on the platform, which the company acquired in the past months, particularly with Chartable and Podsights joining the Swedish company. The acquisition will help bring new content to Spotify and better its podcast productions from the many people offering to share their insights on the different topics available.
One of the company's most controversial podcast content is Joe Rogan's "The Joe Rogan Experience," which several music creators labeled as spreading misinformation on the platform. Since then, Spotify has had eyes on what steps it would take in the following moments, especially when it denounced misinformation circulation.
