Google says Pixel 5, 5a, and 4a will not carry any support for 5G C-Band-even if the hardware of these smartphones are capable and powerful enough of doing so.

Google Pixel 5, 5a, 4a Will NOT Support 5G C-Band

As per a news story by The Verge, the search engine giant announced that there is no plan to bring the support for C-band 5G to its older Pixel phones in the United States.

However, Google itself admitted that the hardware of these older mobile devices is capable of the best 5G tech out there, noting that it could support it in other countries.

The announcement from Google comes after it has rolled out its update for its latest Pixel phones, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, in the US, bringing the 5G C-band support, albeit being delayed.

On the other hand, the tech giant did not update its older smartphones with the new 5G tech support.

Instead, Google only said that there are still no "plans to support C-band operation in the US" for its previous Pixel devices, such as the Pixel 5, as well the mid-range variants, the Pixel 5a and 4a, which are all already 5G-capable.

Despite that, as mentioned earlier, Google said that these mobile phones already "have C-band capable hardware."

The Pixel phone maker did not explain the reason behind its decision not to bring the C-band support for its older devices along with its Pixel 6 series smartphones.

The Verge noted in the same news story that when the mid-range offering of Google, the Pixel 5a, was released last 2021, the online news outlet said that the tech giant could soon add the C-band support.

However, even if the smartphone could actually do so as its hardware suggests, it still did not go that route as Google decided not to.

On top of that, according to a recent report by 9to5Google, Verizon also previously said on its website that the Pixel 5 only requires a software update to be eligible for its C-Band spectrum.

The list also includes various Apple phones and tablets, such as the iPhone 13 lineup, the iPhone 12 series, and the iPhone Pro models released last Spring. Not to mention the latest Google devices, namely the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6.
