Apple's Mac Studio has a removable SSD storage, as seen in one of its early teardown videos, giving some folks hope that it would be upgradable.
However, a new YouTube video by Luke Miani shows that the all-new Mac Studio is not upgradable even with its removable storage due to software limitations.
As per a news story by The Verge, it appears that the software of the new Mac Studio, the professional desktop system of Apple, is reportedly blocking the replacement SSD, making it unusable on the machine.
Apple Mac Studio's 'Upgradable' SSD Storage
The recent teardown video of the all-new Mac Studio, which is now the most powerful M1 computer out there, showed that its SSD storage is removable-albeit a little bit tedious to do so.
As such, it gave a hint that the new Apple computer comes with an upgradeable SSD, according to a recent report by 9to5Mac.
However, the YouTuber that goes by the name Max Tech has shown in his teardown video of the new Apple computer that removing the SSD is possible. It comes as the storage for M1 machines is no longer soldered to their mainboards.
But still, the "removable" SSD of that powerful M1 machine manages to make the task of removing it a tough job.
It did not help that part of the process required removing the unshielded power supply of the Mac Studio. Not to mention the need to remove the rubber ring of the computer and a couple of unscrewing along the way.

Mac Studio SSD Storage Upgrade Blocked
But it turns out that the laborious process of removing the SSD leads to nowhere.
The Verge noted in the same report that the software of the new Mac Studio appears to be blocking its SSD storage once it is replaced with another one.
That said, although Apple now makes it possible for its SSD storage to be removed and replaced, the latter would end up unusable due to a software limitation.
Once the replacement is up, the prompt would then show up saying "Mac Studio storage is not user accessible."
On top of that, the official website of the Mac Studio tells its customers to "consider configuring to a higher capacity" if ever they think that they will be needing more storage in the long run.
