The metaverse concept and blockchain gaming have both exploded over the past several years, with outside funding reaching into the stratosphere. Oorbit, a self-titled "arcade platform with blockchain-enabled AAA-quality games," is yet another example of this ever-growing trend, only the latter proves to be somewhat different in its main approach to the formula.
While still yet to be fully released (launching in late 2022), the platform boasts a suite of blockchain-based parameters for those heavily invested in the space. These include full marketplaces (plural), interactive media, video games, digital live events, and much more, all of which are delivered via content partners hand picked by Oorbit.
Its wide-reaching approach has attracted investors like Mark Cuban, the Shark Tank star whose interest in cryptocurrency and blockchain supposedly makeup nearly 80% of his total investments. Similarly, deadmau5, an avid NFT and Web3 supporter, was also amid Oorbit's most recent round of seed funding, allotting the entertainment metaverse platform a $5 million bump in the capital.
The company's founder, Ash Koosha, had some words on his platform is an evolution on the atypical blockchain app format:
"Oorbit is demystifying the major technologies that will play the biggest role in the growth of Web3 and the metaverse; blockchain, cloud streaming, NFTs, fintech and more. We are combining the best parts of these complex technologies to enable an episodic entertainment that is not just incredible but also affordable, for all audiences. This round of funding will support growth and platform expansion."
Oorbit's Twitter description aptly reads, "What if you could travel between many worlds, play and take your identity with you?" The company vies to be at the forefront of the metaverse concept, bridging all of the idiosyncrasies of blockchain and Web3 integrations under one roof. Its utilization of the cloud gaming format, taking the interesting ideals from the likes of Google's Stadia and Amazon's Luna and applying them to the blockchain for an even more rewarding result.
While it's not the 3D internet of tomorrow just yet, Oorbit certainly is onto something in its approach mainly focused on cloud gaming. Koosha has been an adamant supporter of cloud games, specifically EBCG, or event-based cloud gaming, and the integration of this tech in Oorbit is where the platform will thrive as a metaverse hotspot.
Cuban relays his own thoughts on the company by calling it "an innovative platform" for game creators and brands to "easily deliver their most compelling work. He adds, "Best of all, and core to their plan, Oorbit has put the user at the center of their technology so they enable games and even worlds that will delight all comers, and blaze a path for metaverse growth overall."
With avid proprietary technology driving its ecosystem, Oorbit proves Web3 can be obtainable with the right infrastructure. While still only in early access, which those interested can apply via email on Oorbit's website, the future is still certainly bright in its creator-specific approach to 3D world-building.
