The current U.S. car fuel hike was able to surpass the 2008 gas increase record. This is a major concern since the majority of Americans are still relying on conventional vehicles just to go to work.
On the other hand, buses and other public transportations are also not zero-emission models yet, meaning they need fuel to operate.
Right now, the average cost of car gasoline is around $4.17. This is a massive increase compared to the previous value of $3.60.
US Car Fuel Hike Breaks 2008 Gas Increase Record
According to USA Today's latest report, the latest price hike surpassed the 2008 gas increase, which is $4.11.
On the other hand, a barrel of U.S. crude oil now costs $119.40. Meanwhile, Brent crude fuel's international standard car fuel is now $123.21 per barrel.
The major reason for this sudden increase is the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Tom Kloza, the chief global analyst for the Oil Price Information Service, said that Russia is the second-largest oil producer across the United States.
Although the United States is still the top car fuel provider, it also relies on Russia for supplies. As of the moment, it is still unclear when will the price hike stop.
But, one thing is for sure. The gas costs will slowly go up as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues.
How To Reduce Fuel Consumption
The government of Canada website provided some tips on how to reduce fuel consumption while driving. Here are some of them:
- Always make sure that your speed is steady as possible. This will prevent your engine from pumping more fuel. Changing your speed from 75 km to 85 km every 18 seconds can increase gas consumption by 20%.
- When increasing your speed, make sure that you do it slowly. At least five seconds of acceleration is suggested to reduce fuel consumption.
- Avoid going too fast. Driving around 120 km per hour can increase your fuel consumption by up to 20%.
