'Elden Ring' Almost Hit ONE MILLION Concurrent Players On Steam

"Elden Ring" is proving to be an insanely successful outing for FromSoftware, with player counts skyrocketing like crazy.

GamesRadar reports that the newest "Soulsborne" game almost reached one million concurrent players on Steam over the past weekend. But that's not even the biggest achievement that "Elden Ring" had during the specified time period.

The 953,426 concurrent player count was enough to make "Elden Ring" the sixth-biggest game in Steam history, dwarfed only by the true titans of the platform. Only games like "PUBG," "CS:GO," and "Dota 2," among others, are able to tally higher player counts.

But the massive "Elden Ring" player count has also meant it already eclipsed a handful of greats. For one, it now has more concurrent players in a 24-hour window than "Apex Legends," "Among Us," and even "GTA 5." This is such an impressive feat for a game that's only been in the market for over a week at the time of this writing.

The data comes from SteamDB, where you could see just how amazing this feat for "Elden Ring" is. As you can see there, the dark fantasy RPG was able to beat out games which were supposed to get high concurrent player counts (i.e. free-to-play, massively multiplayer titles). This is already a feat in itself for a paid game.

Sky-High 'Elden Ring' Player Count On PC Despite Problems

However, those who know how FromSoftware's first open-world "Soulsborne" launched on PC understand that the sky-high player count has a dark side. Specifically, "Elden Ring" launched at a poor state on PC and it's still not fully fixed to this day despite a few updates already being rolled out.

Among the biggest problems with the PC version of the game, according to PCGamer, is its reportedly "shameful" mouse and keyboard controls. While "Soulsborne" games have always been designed around controllers, not every PC player in the world will have access to-or even prefer using-one. This gives this complaint more gravitas than you think.

Either way, FromSoftware pushed all of the right buttons with "Elden Ring," which is now considered one of the biggest game launches of the current generation.

Is 'Elden Ring' Fixed On PC Yet?

FromSoftware has been likely hard at work patching the game up on PC, because it hasn't been up to par with its console versions so far.

For one, the game reportedly suffers from massive stuttering issues, which can be caused by a bug that was forcing the game to use the CPU's integrated graphics instead of the discrete graphics card. This bug has already been fixed with Patch 1.02.2 according to WindowsCentral, but it's not the be-all, end-all.

The latest Patch 1.02.3 for PC, according to GameRant, finally fixed the problem where controllers weren't getting recognized by the game for some reason. Considering how "Soulsborne" games were designed around controllers (and how the mouse and keyboard controls are lacking), this is one of the biggest problems for "Elden Ring" on PC so far.

There's still a lot of work to be done.
