Twitter is rumored to be working on adding a new feature after a "podcast" tab was supposedly discovered on the app itself. An app researcher reportedly discovered the new tab pointing towards the platform's potential upcoming addition.
Twitter Rumored to be Adding a Podcasts Feature
According to the story by 9to5mac, Twitter really surprised a number of its users ever since its introduction of the Spaces live audio platform back in 2020. This unexpected move was a surprise due to the platform being more popular for short texts.
Audio chats, however, have started to become more and more popular. According to the publication, it currently looks like the next big move of the the social media app is to come out with its very own podcast platform for its users.
Newly Discovered 'Podcasts' Tab
Jane Manchun Wong, an app researcher, pointed out that there is currently a new "Podcasts" tab that was hidden in the Twitter app. It can be said that this hidden tab could be hinting towards a new offering by the platform.
Although the tab itself does not really show a lot in detail, it at least makes it quite clear that the company is looking at joining the podcast market. Should Twitter decide to move into the space, they will go up against major competitors just like Spotify and Apple.
Podcasts Feature Different from Twitter Spaces?
As of press time, it remains unclear as to exactly how the company will be marketing its upcoming podcast platform. The article by 9to5Mac, however, notes that it is not really that hard to imagine that the platform will be integrating podcasts with its current Twitter Spaces.
Some time earlier this year, the platform announced that all of its users will be able to record Spaces sessions in order for other people to listen to them later on. This, as the publication points out, is "basically like a podcast."

What Users Could Think of the New Feature
If the rumored feature will really be rolled out, podcasts coming to Twitter will not be that much of a surprise for some. Quite recently, the company has actually been providing different guides and tips for different creators to be able to promote their own audio shows on Twitter for a period of time.
This would then make sense if Twitter decided to have dedicated places for its podcasts just like how Spaces already has its own dedicated tab. 9to5Mac, however, notes that the new feature could actually upset certain users.
According to the publication, some users might become upset due to the company trying to add "too many features" that stretch way beyond Twitter's initial purpose.
