Yahoo Mail in China

The American tech giant, Yahoo, has previously closed down the operations of its services in China, other than its email platform, way back in November 2021, as per a news story by TechRadar.

On the other hand, Yahoo Mail continued with its services in China. But the tech giant is now notifying its users in the country regarding its closure this month.

Meanwhile, Tech Radar noted that the search engine platform of Yahoo had bid goodbye to the Chinese market for years already, whereas its email service had closed down way back in 2013 as well.

However, after the Chinese tech giant, Alibaba, secured about 20 percent of stake in the American firm, the email services of Yahoo have returned to the Asian nation.

Yahoo Mail Leaves China

For the second time, Yahoo Mail is closing down its services in China, wherein its users would no longer have access to their data, contact, and inbox.

The tech firm has advised its users in China to switch to other email services as it is leaving the country for good.

Before its farewell last Feb. 28, Yahoo asked its users to download their data, such as their contact, schedules, and tons of more.

Yahoo vs. Chinese Privacy Law

The departure of Yahoo in China last Nov. 2021 comes after the implementation of the new Personal Information Protection Law in the country.

This time around, Yahoo is once again citing the "new privacy regulations" of the Asian nation in its latest memo to its email users in the country.

The tech giant said that the closure is due to the "increasingly challenging business and legal environment in China, including new privacy regulations."

As a result, Yahoo said that its email service is now officially inaccessible in mainland China, which started on Feb. 28, according to a recent report by GizChina.

Yahoo Mail Global Operations

Despite the departure of Yahoo Mail in China, the tech giant clarified that its services in other regions outside of the Asian country "will continue to function as expected."

That said, the global users of the email client of Yahoo will not be affected by the recent move of the tech giant in China, which exclusively involves its operations in the said country.

So, if you are a Yahoo Mail user outside of the mainland Chinese territory, you'll still get to access your email and inbox without any issues.
