However, Meta hasn't confirmed if the pause will be temporary or permanent. The move comes as the company focuses its efforts on developing the so-called metaverse platform.

The disbanded group was previously working on the XROX project, which focuses on developing new AR glasses and VR headsets and other gadgets that offer augmented reality experiences.

Meta's AR Dev Team Now Disbanded

According To The Verge's latest report, Meta did not announce any interest in disbanding its AR development team. Facebook Reality Labs' Vice President Gabriel Aul even said that the team is expanding and not shrinking.

Now, three individuals, who are familiar with Meta's works, claimed that the giant tech company has dissolved around 300 employees in the XROS team.

9To5Mac also reported that Meta has now changed its plans for its AR/VR devices and systems, removing the idea of creating its own operating system (OS) for its virtual reality wearables.

As of the moment, Meta hasn't confirmed what will happen to the staff of the XROS team.

Is Metaverse Doing Meta Any Good?

Right now, Metaverse is not yet complete. Since Mark Zuckerberg's company is still working on the virtual platform, Meta hasn't really benefitted from it yet.

Instead, the tech giant already lost around $500 billion as it shifted its focus.

One of the issues experienced by Meta is the features launched by Google and Apple, which are specifically designed to block the company's targeted user ads.

In other news, JPMorgan's Decentraland VR lounge launch allowed it to enter Meta's metaverse. Meanwhile, a Meta official recently claimed that the virtual reality platform could lead to more business revenues.
