HTC to Reveal One M9 on March 1, Expect Snapdragon 810, 20.7-MP Camera, And More

HTC has announced an event which is to reveal its next flagship smartphones, likely to be the HTC One M9, codenamed Hima.

The unveiling will take place at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), running March 2-5 in Barcelona, with much speculation as to what the device could include as far as specs go.

The HTC One M8 was HTC's most successful smartphone to date. It included a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a 5.0-inch full HD 1080p display, either 16 GB or 32 GB of storage, and 2 GB of RAM. It also has a 4-megapixel dual rear-facing camera and a 5-MP front-facing camera. These specs are certainly flagship-quality, so what will the One M9 improve on?

As far as design goes, it is largely expected that the One M9 will be similar to the One M8 and One M7 before it. While it will likely be a little more streamlined, and perhaps even a little thinner, it is not expected that HTC will do anything radical with the One series as far as design goes.

It is likely that HTC will include an improved processor in the One M9. This will probably be Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor, which runs at 2.3 GHz, although it could end up being the Snapdragon 805, which would still be an improvement on the 801 in last year's model. It is also likely that we will see a bump in RAM, going from 2 GB to 3 GB.

While HTC could keep the 16 GB or 32 GB options of storage, it is more likely that it will bump up these options, making 32 GB the minimum and including a larger 64 GB option.

HTC will almost definitely upgrade the screen of the device, likely bringing it up to 2K resolution. The company could even increase the size of the display on the One M9.

The camera on the HTC One M9 is going to be a big focus, considering the dual camera that was included in the One M8. Reports suggest that HTC could ditch the dual camera in favor of a 16-megapixel sensors, although some suggest that the camera could be as much as 20.7-megapixels.

The HTC One M8 included speakers by Beats, but Apple has since taken over Beats, thus making it unlikely the two companies will collaborate on the One M9. While HTC is making its own speakers, called BoomSound, some reports suggest that the company could be working with Bose for its next flagship.

It is also possible that HTC could go the same route as Apple and release two different-sized versions of this upcoming phone.

It is important to remember that none of these speculations are official and that we won't know the exact specs of the device until March 1. Stay tuned.
