Phablets have gone mainstream, thanks to the success of handsets like Samsung's Galaxy Note 4, Apple's iPhone 6 Plus, and Google's Nexus 6. A new report provides details on HTC's upcoming phablet, the 'HTC Hima Ace Plus.'
When Samsung unveiled the original Galaxy Note at IFA in 2011, it was met with tons of skepticism from the tech world due to its 5.3-inch display, which was considered to be gigantic at the time. Samsung and consumers proved the skeptics wrong and each Galaxy Note phablet follow up significantly outsold its predecessor.
While Samsung was enjoying its status as king of the phablet world, two of its biggest rivals entered the game in 2014 with jumbo-sized smartphones of their own. Apple launched its first phablet, the iPhone 6 Plus in September 2014, and the smartphone became an instant hit. Google also flexed its phablet muscle last year when it released its 5.9-inch Nexus 6 in November.
A new report claims that HTC is currently working on its own flagship phablet and it's going by the codename "HTC Hima Ace Plus," which will presumably be based on HTC's upcoming flagship smartphone, the HTC Hima. The HTC Hima Ace Plus will replace the HTC One Max phablet, which was released in October 2013.
The HTC Hima Ace Plus will reportedly have some very impressive specs, including an ultra-sharp 5.5-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a high pixel density of 534 pixels per inch (ppi). The source also claims it will have a bezel-free screen.
In terms of processing power, the HTC Hima Ace Plus will reportedly pack in a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and a healthy 3 GB of RAM. It will include a 20-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing UltraPixel camera for video chat and selfies. The phablet will also retain the HTC One Max's fingerprint scanner and it ships with a large 3,000 mAh battery.
The source goes on to say that the HTC Hima Ace Plus will likely be announced in August or September, which will put it in direct competition with both the unannounced Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Apple iPhone 6s Plus S. We'll keep you posted on any new HTC Hima Ace Plus news.
