Apple iPhone's OLED display panel supplier, BOE, is reportedly currently struggling with its production due to the raging global chip shortage mess.
Apple iPhone's OLED Display Supplier Production Struggle
As per a news story by Apple Insider, the OLED maker of Apple's flagship smartphone is now affected by the current silicon chip shortage.
According to the sources of TheElec, the production issue that the Chinese display maker is facing could affect the production of the iPhone OLED displays from this month until March 2022.
The display driver IC supplier of the China-based display supplier, LX Semicon, has reportedly decided to prioritize supplying another iPhone OLED panel supplier, LG Display.
It comes as the capacity of LX Semicon production for its display driver IC has drastically slumped due to the ongoing chip supply crisis across the globe.
As such, the overall production capacity of BOE is consequently going downwards as well. The Chinese display firm now expects to fulfill about two to three million as it struggles with the effects of the silicon chip mess.

iPhone OLED Panels from BOE
Although the Cupertino tech giant primarily orders most of its OLED display panels for its flagship smartphones from the South Korean phone maker, Samsung, both BOE and LG Display also provide a small fraction of iPhone screens.
As per a recent report by GSM Arena, the iPhone maker is massively reliant on Samsung Display for the OLED screens of its flagship phones, but the tech giant is attempting to change just that.
Coincidentally, BOE is reportedly ramping up its production and manufacturing process to open up its doors from more iPhone OLED orders. In which, the news outlet says it would further enable the Chinese display firm to provide more screens for the upcoming iPhone 15.
The manufacturing upgrades that BOE is reportedly working on would increase its overall production. It should also improve the quality of its displays, allowing the China-based firm to produce high-quality LTPO OLED panels, which is similar to what Samsung is widely offering nowadays.
On top of that, The Elec also disclosed in its report that the Cupertino-based tech giant has already ordered a whopping 10 million OLED panels from BOE. However, it is to note that it has yet to be confirmed.
However, with the production issues that BOE is currently facing, it appears that it could only provide up to three million units for the next two months.
