Samsung Galaxy S22 now ships with Google Messages installed on its system by default, bringing RCS or Rich Communication Services messaging to a wider range of users.
Samsung Galaxy S22 and Google Messages
It is worth noting that a bulk of Android phone users are Samsung mobile devices in the United States, as per a news story by The Verge.
That said, now that the South Korean phone maker is bringing Google Messages as its default messaging app, it simultaneously rolls out RCS to its huge user base.
The Verge confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S22 series of devices are shipping in the US with Google Messages pre-installed.
However, according to a recent report by 9to5Google, Samsung Messages, which used to be the default messaging app on the phones of the South Korean tech giant, will still be pre-installed on the S22 series.
But this time around, though, Samsung Messages would no longer be the default app on the Galaxy S22 devices. But still, its users could opt to set it as their messaging app instead of the now-default Google Messages.
It is worth noting that Google Messages is not something new to Samsung devices. As a matter of fact, it has been available for its users for a long time now, but previously it needed to be manually installed-unlike now wherein it's now only pre-installed, it's also the default messaging app.
Google Messages on Samsung Smartphones
9to5Google noted in the same report that it is also not the first instance that Samsung made Google Messages its default messaging app on its flagship devices.
It began its first rodeo with Google Messages last year in 2021, which was pre-installed as the default app for its Galaxy S21 series, along with its fancy flagship foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Z Fold 3, at least in European locations.

Google Messages and RCS
With all that said, the RCS support is now rolling out to more smartphones than ever through Google Messages.
Last 2021, US carriers, such as Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile started to adopt Google Messages' RCS feature, making it the default message app on their devices.
However, even with the RCS support roll out on US carriers has not been significantly widespread. Now that Samsung is on board it should further expand the use of smart messaging technology.
The Verge noted that RCS comes with features that traditional SMS fails to have, such as the read receipts option and indicators that the other end is typing. Not to mention that it also supports sending large files and even high-quality media.
Elsewhere, Google previously persuaded Apple to also support RCS.
