Facebook Rolls Out Split Payments Feature That Lets You Divide the Bill With Your Friends

Facebook Messenger, together with new features rolling out to Instagram today, is releasing new functions for its app users.

Facebook Split Payments Feature

According to Facebook's blog post, users in the United States with iOS and Android devices can use a new feature called Split Payments.

With that, users can split a bill evenly or customize the amount each person owns in the bill. It will allow you to add personalized messages, confirm the payment details and send the request.

According to 9to5Google, friends who are new to payments in Messenger can easily add payment details to send and receive money.

Aside from this feature, Facebook Messenger is also launching new voice message recording controls, bringing the ability to preview, pause, delete, or continue recording a voice message before sending it. The feature is the same as the one launched on WhatsApp.

Facebook Messenger is also increasing the duration of voice messages from a minute to 30 minutes tops. Also, Facebook Messenger is introducing Disappearing Messages with Vanish Mode.

Facebook's blog post explains that with Vanish Mode, the messages disappear after they are seen. If you can't find the right words, you can also send disappearing memes, GIFs, reactions, or stickers.

To turn on Vanish Mode, just open an existing chat thread on your device and swipe up. Then swipe up again, and you are back to your regular chat.

It is important to note that all messages on Facebook Messenger can be encrypted, including the Vanish Mode feature.

End-to-End Encryption on Facebook Messenger

Since security has become important to businesses and consumers, the more data that is transmitted, the more the issue is forced into the center of the conversation, according to Tech Republic.

In this day and age of constant communication, if you are not thinking with a security-first mindset, you are placing yourself at risk.

This holds true with every mobile app that you use, including Facebook Messenger. Even though Facebook has been plagued with security issues, they have finally added a new layer of security to their messaging application.

The layer of security is called end-to-end encryption, which means that only the device the message is sent to can decrypt the message.

This means that when the feature is enabled, only the people you send messages to can read those messages. This can help prevent third parties from seeing your threads.

However, end-to-end encryption is not enabled by default in Facebook Messenger. Good thing it is not difficult to enable.

To enable e2e encryption on Facebook Messenger, you will need the app installed on either an Android or iOS device and a Facebook account.

The e2e on Facebook Messenger enables you to do it for individual contacts. To start an e2e encrypted chat with a contact, open the Facebook Messenger app.

Next, tap the profile icon of the contact for which you want to switch on e2e encryption, and then tap their profile icon again.

The window will change to the end-to-end encrypted version of your chat. In that same window, you can also configure the messages to disappear after a set time.

The features on Facebook Messenger came after Meta stated that the apps may be banned in Europe due to privacy issues.

If you wish to change your Facebook Messenger to Dark Mode, you can do so on Android and iOS devices.
