The latest report claiming HBO Max is working on a TV app revamp coincidentally comes a few weeks after HBO decided to end its partnership with Apple TV in July. The move has led to the transfer of its content to the streaming service that carries its name.

As such, new Apple TV subscribers will no longer be able to access HBO via its roster of channels beginning July 22.

HBO Max TV App

As per MacRumors, after cutting its ties with Apple, HBO Max removed the native tvOS video player of the streaming platform, and went on to replace it with a custom video player instead.

However, that move brought a disaster to the app, destroying the fast-forward and rewind functions on the streaming platform.

As such, HBO was swift to admit its mistake and went on to bring back the native tvOS video player it scratched early on.

Despite, the reinstatement of the tvOS based HBO Max player, there are still countless problems concerning the playback options, along with audio description and subtitles.

It is to note that the said features are basic functions that allow users to stream their favorite movies and show seamlessly, but HBO Max is having a hard time making them work.

HBO Max to Overhaul Buggy TV App

That said, Vulture spoke with some of the HBO Max top brass, wherein they acknowledged that the playback error that Apple TV users experience needs to be fixed "within days."

The execs further noted that users of the Cupertino giant product are getting an overhauled version of the streaming app to match the services that they want them to experience.

The report from the same outlet also revealed that the multiple playback errors began when it introduced a new budget tier of HBO Max, the $10 ad-supported option, as well as when the streaming platform expanded its service to 39 countries across the globe last June.

The unnamed HBO Max exec further explained that the integration of ads on the streaming app forcibly introduced a new coding layer, which coincidentally introduced annoying bugs to its users.

Moreover, the source bared that the HBO Max TV app is going to be replaced with a revamped version "in the next four or five months."

Meanwhile, the Apple TV customers are getting the overhaul in early 2022.
