America Chavez, The Graceful Miss America, Makes Her 'Marvel Contest of Champions' Debut

The groundbreaking superhero America Chavez, known by her moniker Miss America, is the latest character to join the KABAM fighting game "Marvel Contest of Champions."

In her very own Champion Spotlight page, Miss America was described as a creature born in the Utopian Parallel, which, in Marvel Lore, is an alternate dimension outside of time and space of the entire Multiverse. As a special dimension that exists in the presence of the Demiurge, America Chavez absorbed its energies - allowing her to travel between dimensions at will.

Game N' Guide

She's Beauty, She's Grace, She's Miss America

As the latest playable character in the Marvel Contest of Champions, America Chavez is built as a powerhouse brawler who draws additional strength from Buffs and delivers back-to-back heavy hits. She has the unique ability of opening Parallel Dimensions, which gives her a boost when she casts her Special Attack while her Heavy Attack is active.

The Mystic Class hero has four abilities: Utopian Parallel, Dark Dimension, Negative Zone, and Dimensional Energy Infusion.

Her Stat-base Buffs involves increasing both her Attack Rating and Energy Resistance for every Buff active on her Opponent. If an Opponent, for example, has Fury, Armor Up, Precision, or Cruelty, expect America Chavez to turn them to invert their effectiveness and use them to her advantage.

Additionally, she also has Power Gain Buffs. With her power to easily open the Negative Zone, which reduces the Ability Power Rate of her Opponent, she can invert any Power Gained by the enemy when she lands two Heavy Attacks. On the other hand, if the Opponent takes a Power Gain from Buffs, America Chavez also receives bonus Attack and Energy Resist.

The Next Big Thing

America Chavez first made her appearance in the September 2011 comic book Vengeance #1, later being a member of the Young Avengers before starring in her solo series in March 2017. She made history as the first Latin-American LGBTQ character to star in her own ongoing series, being revealed as a lesbian. Additionally, she's set to make her live-action debut in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," where she'll be portrayed by "The Baby-Sitters Club" actress Xochitl Gomez.

Aside from her ability to travel across the multiverse and its alternate realities (characterized by her kicking star-shaped holes), Miss America also has superhuman strength and durability, as well as the ability to fly. According to CBR, she also has the ability to move at superhuman speeds.

About Marvel Contest of Champions

Originally released by the interactive entertainment company Kabam, Marvel Contest of Champions features 203 playable characters from Marvel's vast range of IP. Heroes and Villains are divided into classes and have unique movements and abilities. The game's main storyline is based on the limited comic book series "Contest of Champions," which was a pivotal work in comic book history as it introduced the idea of crossovers in 1982 even before the concept of "crossovers" was even conceived.

Its gameplay involves an energy system that is consumed when users play a mission, limiting the number of successive games that can be played. The energy, however, recharges over a period of time. Consequently, users can also manually restore their energy to continue playing.
