"Unplugged" is almost here. Anotherway, the studio behind the upcoming virtual reality air guitar game "Unplugged" gave an update at the Upload VR Showcase on June 12. The studio revealed one big band that will be a part of the VR's soundtrack.

Unplugged Air Guitar

"Unplugged" uses hand-tracking technology to let the users play the guitar in VR with no gloves or any special controllers needed. Users can see where to strum by following a "Guitar Hero" type stream of notes that roll in their direction, and they will earn points for nailing their virtual chords and strums.

The whole premise is impressive. On June 12, the trailer was dropped. The developer Anotherway announced that "The Offspring" will be part of "Unplugged's" official soundtrack and teased that they will have bands in the soundtrack that they have always loved.

The VR game will also have minigames, powerups, and crowd interaction included. "Unplugged" will be available for both Oculus Quest and Stream VR headsets. Hand tracking capabilities will be available, according to The Verge.

Unplugged First Announcement

In 2020, Anotherway was a newly formed virtual reality or VR studio. The studio revealed the first details of an Oculus Quest project called "Unplugged: Air Guitar."

Meanwhile, Vertigo Games announced that it will be the one to publish the title in order to use the standalone headset's hand-tracking capabilities.

Rhythm-action videogames such as "Rock Band VR" have relied on guitar controllers in order to emulate the rock star style without having to go through the years of practice in learning the instrument.

"Unplugged" is looking to harness in the idea of players sitting at home and jamming to their favorite tunes using the classic air guitar, according to UploadVR.

Anotherway has released a couple of teaser videos last year featuring Searching for the Truth by The Electric Alley and Roadie by Tenacious D.

The gameplay looks promising, from the note selection to the overall graphics. This is why Vertigo Games entered the publishing partnership with Anotherway, according to VRFocus.

Kimara Rouwit, the Marketing Director at Vertigo Games, said in a statement that just like a lot of the VR community, from players to creators, they were impressed by tempting live gig atmosphere, 80s music fanzine art style and innovative air guitar gameplay shows in the first Unplugged gameplay teasers that circulated online earlier this year.

Rouwit added that they are excited to officially bring aboard the Anotherway studio and are fully geared towards helping them realize their unrevealed ambitions of Unplugged, which will see them elevate their gameplay concept in numerous ways.

Julia Casal, the Producer at Anotherway, said that Unplugged started out as a passion project that grabbed the attention of numerous VR media and content creators, and they soon realized that the project had much potential and they needed a partner to help them bring the idea to life.

Casal added that by partnering with Vertigo Games, they are able to scale up the project and pursue their goals. Unplugged is set to be released in Q3 2021, and fans can expect more teaser videos posted in the next couple of weeks.
