Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2 are getting updates. Samsung is rolling out another patch to the owners of the said gadgets, and it is set to enhance some of the icons on your smartwatch and improve stability.
Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2 Update
Where Samsung's recent Galaxy phones consistently receive monthly updates, bringing them up to date with the latest Android security patch, their Tizen smartwatches can be a bit more irregular, with the time between updates ranging between days and months.
Just over a month and a half since their last significant update arrived, Samsung is rolling out another update for their most recent smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 3 and Watch Active 2, bringing them to build numbers R840XXU1BUE3 and R830XXU1DUE3.
The main improvements that users can look forward to with the new update are tweaks to some of the watches' activity icons for things like automatic walking, and for inactivity reminders, according to GSMArena.
The Tizen version remains the same, but Samsung's update notes assure that the Galaxy Watch 3 and Watch Active 2 will be more stable.
The update will allow the Galaxy Watch 3 to have an enhanced auto walking and running icons, enhanced the inactive time alerts icon, and improved device stability.
Last month's update arrived simultaneously for the Galaxy Watch 3 and original Galaxy Watch, the older series smartwatch has so far not received this update, but that could easily change in the coming weeks.
Samsung May 2021 Security Update
Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2 are not the only ones getting an update. The May 2021 security update has started rolling out for a number of Samsung devices, including the likes of the Galaxy S21, and more.
The May security patch is not technically fully released yet even though Samsung has started its rollout to selected smartphones, as per 9to5Google.
Google follows a pattern of rolling out the update to its Pixel smartphones on the first Monday of every month, this month landing on May 3.
Not every monthly patch adds new features, but there are usually multiple tweaks and tuning enhancement for existing Samsung smartphones to savor. Previous patches have added camera features and functions that are usually not announced ahead of time.
SamMobile reported that the May patch improved the camera performance, and even the Quick Share feature for those with the Galaxy S21. These are likely the two most notable changes, but there may be added features for specific hardware.
However, owners of the Galaxy S20 and the owners of Note 20 will also get complete access to two extra video recording features as part of the May 2021 security update.
The dual recording is part of the update package, a feature that allows you to record on multiple lenses simultaneously for a picture-in-picture effect, while using the Galaxy S20 and the Note 20 camera systems.
The list of devices getting monthly updates right now is quite hefty, and even as of May 27, some models have already been updated, including different Galaxy S Series and Galaxy Note Series.
