Microsoft is currently warning Android smartphone users to be more careful when installing unknown apps. However, the tech giant company confirmed that these malicious apps are not published in the official Google Play Store.
Instead, they are currently offered by online forums and third-party websites. Microsoft's security team confirmed that these apps contain new ransomware called AndroidOS/MaILocker.B.
The giant manufacturer explained that this new ransomware activates when the user presses their smartphone's Home button. If this is true, this means that the hackers and other cybercriminals behind the new computer virus can easily breach your device with a simple action.
Microsoft's Warning About the New Ransomware
According to the National Cybersecurity News Today's latest report, Microsoft claimed that when the user installs one of the malicious apps, it will allow the new AndroidOS/MalLocker.B Ransomware to breach their device.
After that, the new computer virus will soon take over your device's screen. This will prevent the users from dismissing the ransom notes.

Aside from this, Microsoft's security team also explained that the new ransomware will pretend to be a local law enforcement message. The text will specifically tell the users that they committed a crime and need to pay a fine.
As of the moment, this method is one of the most popular hacking techniques used by various hackers and online attackers. It also allows them to steal their victims' money easily since the local enforcement message looks legitimate.
Furthermore, Microsoft also explained that the new ransomware will abuse your smartphone's call notification. This will allow the hackers to show a window that covers their victims' entire screens.
Right now, various ransomware is being developed, such as the latest Conti ransomware, to attack many users. They are currently effective since most transactions, and other activities involving money are done online.
Normal Ransomware Demands Thousands of Dollars on Average
The World Economic Forum reported that the new ransomware now demands around $170,000 on an average basis. This just shows how efficient new computer viruses become these days.
Because of this, various organizations and tech companies are also creating and developing different security features and preventive methods to combat new malware and ransomware.
