A lot of people were excited and curious as to what Elon Musk would say during his long-awaited SNL performance. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO had a lot of really interesting lines during his monologue but one of the most notable ones was when he revealed that he had Asperger's syndrome.
Elon Musk Asperger's Syndrome
According to the story by CNet, Elon Musk revealed that he is probably the first SNL host to ever have Asperger's syndrome! He then joked about it saying "or at least the first to admit it" since Dan Aykroyd, who had previously hosted back in 2003 despite leaving the cast, also had Asperger's syndrome as well.
The thing about Asperger's syndrome is that it is extremely misunderstood with a lot of people still treating it as a severe mental illness and other misconceptions. With Elon Musk revealing that he has Asperger's syndrome, hopefully, the misconceptions about the syndrome could be cleared out.
What is Asperger's?
According to the website WebMD, when people think about Asperger's syndrome, there could be two different things that could be easily recognizable. The first thing that can be noticed is that they are usually very smart "as other folks" but could have trouble with general social skills. Another key thing to pinpoint is that they also have tendencies of obsessive focus on a certain topic or perform the very same behaviors repetitively.
Doctors usually think of Asperger's as a totally different condition. Back in 2013, however, the newest edition of the standard book that most mental health experts use finally changed how it was classified. According to The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or DSM-5, Asperger's is not a diagnosis on its own.
Asperger's Syndrome Definition
Asperger's is now reportedly part of a much broader category known as autism spectrum disorder or ASD. This particular group of "related mental health issues" actually share some symptoms. Despite this, a lot of people still use the common term Asperger's.
Doctors reportedly call this a "high-functioning" type of ASD or Autism Spectrum Disorder. This would mean that the symptoms are actually less severe compared to other types of autism spectrum disorders.

Asperger's Elon Musk SNL Revelation
The DSM-5 also reportedly includes a brand new diagnosis which is called social pragmatic communication disorder. The symptoms could overlap with Asperger's. Most doctors use it to describe certain people with problems in talking and writing but still have "normal intelligence."
There's no denying that Elon Musk is extremely smart and is a high-functioning individual. His revelation of him having Asperger's is quite a surprise for most people but Elon Musk was very confident including the statement within close to the start of his SNL skit. For most people, his SNL was a golden part of the prices of dogecoin. Most people didn't expect that the prices of dogecoin would dip after the SNL performance by Elon Musk where he jokingly said he would give some to his mom.
