The Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti is reportedly set to launch on May 26, but would come at a hefty price, leaving fans wondering if it is something they can afford. The upcoming RTX 3080 Ti would also come with an anti-crypto mining technology hoping that it would help the gamers get a hold of the GPU.
Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti: Specs, Price, Release Date Leaks
On Friday, Apr. 23, a report from Hong Kong-based tech site HKEPC revealed that the Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti is officially launching on May 26, 9 PM, confirming previous speculations.
The report also mentioned that photos of the RTX 3080 Ti's shipment to the U.S. was captured and posted as early as Apr. 17, but did not confirm if the photos were real.
Additionally, the RTX 3070 Ti will reportedly be launched immediately after the RTX 3080 Ti's release.
The Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti will be packed with a GA102 GPU with Ampere-based 10,240 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X memory, as well as a 384-bit memory bus, dispelling rumors that the GPU will come with a 20GB memory.
Another leak shows the supposed GA102-225-A1 die that would come with the GPU, adding to the speculations that the RTX 3080 Ti is coming sooner than expected.
Meanwhile, Chinese tech site ITHome suggests that the RTX 3080 Ti will be sold at around ¥7,999 ($1,099), making it more expensive than previous speculations.
While its price could easily break anyone's bank, another report suggests that the upcoming GPU flagship, the RTX 3090, will have a suggested retail price of $1,499.
The imminent launch of the RTX 3080 Ti comes as a mind-bender for those who did not anticipate its release until much later in 2021 due to the global chip shortage.
However, the hefty price tag may not come as a surprise. The global chip shortage, along with the revived interest in crypto-mining, could have influenced its costs.
RTX 3080 Ti's Anti-Cryptomining Technology
The Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti was also designed to keep crypto-miners away, thanks to the inclusion of an anti-mining technology.
The upcoming Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti will include a performance limiter that reduces the hash rate of the GPU by 50% once it detects a crypto-mining activity.
The design, which was first introduced with the RTX 3060, comes in a bid to keep crypto-miners from hoarding the GPU and allow it to be more available to gamers.
To demonstrate how fast the upcoming GPU will be, Videocardz reported on Apr. 22 that a sample of the RTX 3080 Ti showed an ETH mining hash rate of 118.9 Mh/s without the limiter on, making it one of the best GPUs for crypto mining.
If the demonstration is proved real and if the anti-mining technology cannot be circumnavigated, the RTX 3080 Ti could be one of the best GPUs to be out in the market this 2021.
