AMD has just recently made an attempt to please its fans with the low-key release of a new special edition Radeon RX 6800 XT "Midnight Black" Edition GPU. What makes it super low-key is that it wasn't announced to the public but rather to the loyal AMD Red Team Community through email!

AMD Limited Edition

Although the limited edition GPU shares the exact same performance specs in comparison to the regular version, it received a really special black shroud that is dazzled in gray/silver highlights located around the GPU's center cooling fan. While AMD wanted this to be something extra special for fans, it seems that once again, the GPU has proven harder to buy.

According to the story by Hypebeast, the GPU sold out in only a matter of minutes due to those bots and scalpers once again. What made things worse is a number of special "Red Team Links" that were sent to members of the community did not work!

A number of gamers actually brought up the fact that if AMD really did want to help its loyal community followers out to buy the GPUs, they should have used certain things just like non-transferrable passwords, a fair raffle system, or maybe even just the authorized sales only to verified users. Scalpers have now jacked up the price and although the GPU was made to fall in the hands of gamers, it sits online costing more than twice its original price.

The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT "Midnight Black" edition was supposed to sell for only $649 but due to scalpers and bots immediately buying it up and putting it out for sale once again, the prices now fetch up to $1,700 on eBay. This frustrating experience for gamers comes after a lot of complaints of scalpers buying the GPU and reselling it for higher prices.

AMD Secret Release

A tweet by Jon VR King explains the sad experience that gamers are experiencing. The tweet noted that the Red Team Link only directed to a certain page where gamers cannot buy from. It was also noted that the only way the GPU was spotted was from the main store. What was really disappointing was that the add to cart never worked.

The "exclusive" offer didn't quite work according to plan and gamers are now stuck with waiting for new GPUs to come out since the only way to buy the limited edition AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT "Midnight Black" edition might only be through purchasing the GPU from scalpers. It is still unknown as of the moment if AMD will be rereleasing a batch of this GPU to increase the chances of actual gamers to purchase the limited edition GPU.
