Improved interaction among people is Google's target, specifically for Workspace users. Now, you can create Break Out rooms in Google Meet ahead of time through Google Calendar.
If you are someone who always relies on Meet for your appointments in school, work, and other things, the feature will make your preparations much easier than before.
What are Breakout Rooms?
Breakout rooms, just like in Zoom meetings, are the sessions that are separated from the main meeting window. According to the Google support page, moderators can utilize this Google Meet feature to split the participants into simpler partitions during the meeting.
To enable the rooms, the moderators should be notified during the meeting on the device. However, since this is created to have a diverse set-up during the discussion, they cannot be recorded and even cannot be streamed for a live session.
The same page also said that anyone in the meeting could be a moderator, but there should only be one per meeting. When a person has already scheduled a meeting for another Google Calendar made by someone, he/she could be replaced by another person.
Usually, Breakout Rooms are frequently used for educational purposes. Teachers and other related professionals make use of these for the preparation of their learning materials. This is also helpful for them since it prevents wasting time making Breakout Rooms while on the video call.
Breakout Rooms Eligibility
The said feature can be used by the people who also operate appointments with G Suite Business, Business Plus, Business Standards, Workspace Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Essentials, and Enterprise Plus editions.
Furthermore, it is also available to users with Google Workspace for Education Plus license and those who have asked permission to set up a meeting.
Creating Breakout Rooms Ahead of Time on Google Calendar
According to a report by DevDiscourse, to make the said rooms in advance from the Calendar, know that you can do this into two categories: new meeting and existing meeting.
First, to create rooms for the new meeting:
- First, go to calendar.google.com so you can make an event on the Calendar.
- Now, proceed to "Add Google Meet" video conferencing.
- You can now add participants for the meeting.
- Next, head to "Change Conference" settings, then click "Breakout rooms."
- Now, select your desired number of breakout rooms to proceed.
- Then, choose the option by placing the participants in the rooms and entering their names into the chosen room. You can also use 'shuffle' the group.
- Lastly, save your settings if you are already done.
For the existing room, follow these steps:
- First, open the event, edit it then head to its details.
- Now, click the "Change Conference" settings.
- Click the "Breakout Rooms" and select how many you will create.
- Like what you did to the new room, you can choose an option by dragging the participants in the room. You can also name them and shuffle them.
- Save the settings if you are finished.
It is important to take note that this feature is now available on Rapid Release domains. On Mar. 22, the Scheduled Release domains will also receive the feature.
