A lot of PlayStation 5 Mods have been appearing in the past months and they bring an assortment of new looks and designs for the latest console on Sony's lineup, but none of them brought performance tweaks. However, a Vietnamese YouTuber and PC builder have tested a custom-built PlayStation 5 Mod that brought water cooling to the device.
Water cooling is the process of using water to effectively regulate heat and bring down the temperature in a device or tech so that it does not overheat and cause its internal parts to malfunction or break.
That incident is prevented by cooling its internals, and Sony used the traditional fan which is heard mostly when the game is going through a high-process. It is important to note that the PS5 is 4K and 8K-enabled, along with its addition of the SSD, making it one of the highest-performing tech that is prone to overheating.
Water-Cooled PlayStation 5 Mod
The Vietnamese custom PC Builder and YouTuber called Nhenhophach took apart the latest console from Sony and removed its internal fans that cool the PlayStation 5, aiming to replace it with a better one. The modification would result in the change of shell by the PlayStation 5, and it would not be the same white, black, and blue one from Sony.
In this case, the mod would make use of a water cooling system, in which the Vietnamese used customizable RGB lighting, along with a new shell that could hold the new device attached to the PS5. Significantly, the 120mm internal fans are larger than the water cooling system, and it saved space on the console.
The only downside to water cooling is it is far more expensive than the traditional fan system, which is why Sony went with its single internal fan to help in the ventilation inside the console. According to PS5's chief engineer via an interview with 4Gamer, the single fan should have been a dual-fan on each side but it was hard to program the technology.
Is Water Cooling Better? Custom PS5 Water Cooling Mod Soon Available for Orders
Water cooling has certainly been an option for custom PC builds in modern times, and it has brought better performance and optimized speeds for desktops, particularly those with massive specs. The reason is because of fewer moving components that would be prone to breaking and accumulating dirt like the fan's blade and rotors.
The dirt could hinder the device from its performance, thus leading to reduced function to cool the internals, making it a "wear and tear" problem as the device is used. Water cooling may be a new thing for the PS5 and not much of it is tested performance-wise. The fan noise are among the many lists of improvements once this mod takes place.
Nhenhophach is accepting custom orders for this mod soon and advises interested users to contact him via direct messages.
